Suspected bandits in a large number on Monday morning stormed the Obudi Agwa community in Oguta LGA of Imo State, killing the community monarch and his two guests.

It was reported that the hoodlums invaded the community palace as custodian of culture and tradition, desecrated it and killed Eze Assor, Udi of Obudi Agwa and two others before leaving.

Reacting to the incident, Hon Obinna Jumbo, the coordinator of Agwa Development Centre stated the incident occurred this morning at about 9 am.

He narrated that the assailants arrived in two white hummer buses and three motorcycles.

The community source added that the bodies of the traditional ruler and two others who were holding meetings with the monarch at the time of the incident had been deposited at the mortuary.

A separate source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the gunmen were said to have executed the attack in two locations and left the community unchallenged.

According to him, the number of those killed could not be ascertained as the sad incident caused panic among residents with most of the prominent personalities fleeing to town for fear of being killed by the rampaging unknown gunmen.

The Imo Police Command spokesperson, CSP Michael Abattam, was yet to react to the development while filling this report.
