How ASUU ended 8-month academic strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has ended its eight-month-long industrial action.

In a statement by the National Executive Committee, NEC disclosed this to newsmen on Friday morning.

According to NEC, the decision was taken during a meeting of its leadership that started on Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

It was also learned the state branches of the union met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week, following which members voted to conditionally suspend the strike.

Recall, the Court of Appeal had made an order to ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work could be heard.

The National Executive Committee meeting which saw the end of the eight-month-long academic strike was attended by chairmen of the state chapters and national executive members at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.

However, ASUU had been on strike since February 14, 2022.
