Ijaw Publishers Condemn Killing Of Policemen In Delta •Calls For Joint Military Effort To Unravel Perpetrators

The Ijaw Publishers’ Forum, IPF has condemned the killing of 19 policemen by suspected herdsmen in Delta State as the group called for joint security effort to unravel the perpetrators in no distance time.

The apex Ijaw media body, in a statement on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, by its president, Comrade Ozobo Austin called on the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air force, DSS and Local vigilante groups to joint hands with the Nigerian Police to Unravel the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

According to the media professionals, the continued attack and killing of Nigerian police or other security agents must stop, noting that if the barbaric killings of security operatives, not addressed could degenerate into full blown terrorism in the state.

Ozobo who was reacting to a Popular Independent Radio Morning Programme ” Man Around Town” on the 7th day of March, 2024, said that he was shocked to hear that; “Nineteen (19) policemen with responsible families that were sent to a forest in Ughelli allegedly dominated by blood sucking herders for rescue mission are still missing in action which connotes that they may have been killed by the terroristic herders”.

According to information from the Delta State Correspondent of Independent Television and Radio is that, only six (6)! decomposing corpses had been recovered out of the nineteen (19) so far by the Police through the gallant efforts of the Local Vigilantes in the jurisdiction.

The IPF president Ozobo called on the Delta State Government to address insecurity and put a total stop to herdsmen menace and their terrorism in the state.

He added that those police officers killed were Nigerians and they also have rights as citizens. They should not be considered as sacrificial lambs that could be slaughtered any time. “On this note we are calling on the police authorities to commence a full scale investigations while the state government must take step to quit those destructive elements masquerading as herdsmen.

“The state government should initiative a joint security apparatus to unravel the killing of those Policemen and also put measures in place to reduce influx of herdsmen in Delta State”, IPF added.
