The protesting Ijaw Oil Producing kingdom youths have ended the protest after a siege at the headquarters of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC in Warri Delta State today 25th January 2025.

The protesters insisted that the governor, His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori and the Managing Director of the DESOPADEC must with all urgency provide their demands.

The Congress correspondents who were on the ground narrated that the protest which commenced about 6 am in the morning ended at about 3pm in the afternoon.

It was gathered that the commissioner representing Ijaw nationality on the board of DESOPADEC, Hon.Spencer Okpoye later addressed the aggrieved protesters.

The commissioner while addressing the protesters promised that the commission would meet the demands of Delta State Ijaw Oil Producing kingdom youths, emphasising that he will convey a meeting between the youths and the commission’s management next week Monday.

The youths demand included provision of proper development for host communities, skill centres, proper means of transportation for the kingdom youths, building youth secretariats in all Ijaw oil producing kingdoms, employment of more Ijaw people in the board and others.

However, the protest followed the failure of the commission to respond to earlier demands and letter addresses to the commission by the aggrieved youths.
