The Ijaw National Congress, (INC) Worldwide, led by Prof. Benjamin Ogele Okaba has distanced the Ijaw apex body from flyers canvassing for an Ijaw running mate to the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

This was made available to Congress correspondent in Warri Delta state on Friday by Mr Amatoru Torubeni Victor, Media Assistant to the president Prof. Okaba.

According to him, INC is an apolitical socio-cultural organization that had his members belonging to different political parties in the country, adding that the group should not be dragged to such campaigns unknown individuals.

The statement reads,”The attention of the national Executive council of the Ijaw national Congress (INC) Worldwide, has been drawn to flyers making the rounds with the title Ijaw Nation salutes Atiku Abubakar, urging him to pick Ijaw as a running mate”.

“Though non of these flyers bear the paraphernalia of Congress (it’s flag and symbol), we wish to state for the avoidance of doubt and misinterpretation by the public, that the leadership of the Ijaw national Congress is not any way associated with, neither has authorized any group of persons to produce or circulate any of the flyers referred to above”. He said.

“It must be stress that the INC is an apolitical socio-cultural organization that has under it’s umbrella individuals who belong to different political parties and have the privilege to make their political preferences without reference to Her”. He noted.
