Judge Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ruled that Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), be placed under remand in Kuje prison until his bail request is perfected.

Emefiele would stay behind bars until the court rules on his bail motion on November 22.

Rotimi Oyedepo fiercely opposed the bail application made by his lead attorney, Mathew Burkaa SAN, on behalf of the Federal Government.

The judge stated that he needed some time to review the evidence provided by Emefiele to support his bail request as well as to research the relevant authorities.

As of the time of this report, a vehicle to transport him to prison had been requested by Kuje prison authority officials.
