JUST IN: AIG Jimeta dies

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta in charge of Zone 5, which includes Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa States has died on Sunday.

The report said he died on Sunday morning at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Edo State after a brief illness.

SP Ahmed Wakil, Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, confirmed the sad incident to newsmen in a Whatsapp message on Sunday.

According to the statement: “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart but total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I wish to announce the death of A.I.G Lawan Tanko Jimeta.

“He died at the Teaching Hospital, Benin Edo State, this morning after a brief Illness. To Allah, we belong and to him, we shall return, a real departure of a Godly man.

He was born into the family of Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, on September 9, 1964. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language from the University of Maiduguri, as well as a Masters of Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University.

He reportedly joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex in Kaduna State on March 3, 1990.

AIG Jimeta has worked for the Nigeria Police in a variety of capacities, including Edo State Commissioner of Police, Personal Assistant to the AIG of Police, Department of Training and Development, FHQ Annex, Lagos State, Chief of Training, Directorate on Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja, and Area Commander, Suleja.
