Just in: Ex-Bayelsa speaker, Konbowei arrested over alleged certificate forgery

Police Operatives attached to Force headquarters, Abuja have arrested the former speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Konbowei Benson who doubled as Bayelsa Central Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over alleged certificate forgery.

The former speaker was dragged to Court by Senator, Moses Cleopas, the incumbent senator of Bayelsa central for defeating him (Cleopas) in the PDP senatorial primary.

The embattled speaker Benson was accused of submitting forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Federal High Court, sitting in Yenagoa.

It was learnt at press time that a special team of Police officers attached to the office of the Inspector- General of Police on Wednesday stormed Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital to arrest the embattled former speaker.

He was immediately whisked to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) where his statement was taken.

The Commissioner of Police, Ben Okolo who confirmed the presence of the IGP team in the state said he doesn’t know the case the team was investigating and the former speaker was arrested in the state.

Recall, the former speaker Rt.Hon. Konbowei Benson Friday is the PDP Bayelsa Central Senatorial Candidate for the 2023 general Election.
