JUST IN: Fear Grips Another Delta Community Over Massive Oil Spill As Residents Call For Cleanup

Panic and despair have gripped the Odimodi Federated Community in Delta State following a massive crude oil spill that has washed ashore and is threatening livelihoods.

According to local sources, crude oil was first sighted in Beniboye and Isiayegbene communities and is now spreading fast to Gbidipou, Odimodi, Kufabou and other neighbouring communities across the area.

For the fishing and farming families who depend on the creeks and farmlands for survival, the spill is more than an environmental incident — it is a direct threat to their daily bread.

A community source who spoke to IduwiniVoice said fishermen woke up to find their nets and canoes soaked in crude, while the waterways they navigate daily have turned dark and slick with oil. Mothers fear for their children who play by the shore, and elders lament another cycle of pollution in a region already battered by oil activities.

As of press time, the source of the spill has yet to be identified, leaving residents anxious and helpless as the oil continued to spread.

However, affected communities are now making a passionate appeal to the Federal Government, the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and Renaissance Energy to urgently investigate, stop the leak and contain the spill before it wipes out their ecosystem.

They warned that every hour of delay worsens the damage to their environment, health and means of survival.
