JUST IN: NLC, TUC declare nationwide strike
By Peters Monday, Abuja
Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has declared a total and indefinite nationwide strike starting from Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
This was revealed by The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, after an emergency meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
Congress gathered that the labour unions had threatened to embark on strike over an attack on the NLC President, Joe Ajaero in Imo State last week.
Speaking at Channels Television interview on Tuesday, President of TUC, Festus Osifo maintained that the unions had agreed to withdraw their services from Imo State, starting Wednesday, November 8.
“Both NEC of the Unions decided with effect from this night, we will start the withdrawal of service across the board in Imo State.
“Flight operations, electricity, and supply of Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) will be shut down.
“Because for us, what was done in Imo State to Joe Ajaero was barbaric and fundamentally wrong against all norms and principles.
“Tomorrow, Thursday, Friday and through the weekend. Then, if the Government refuses to heed our demands, we will call for a total shutdown on Tuesday”, he said.
