JUST IN: PDP’s Ejele loses Delta south senatorial bid to Joel-Onowakpo of APC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the former chairman of Delta State Board of Internal Revenue (DBIR), and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Joel Onowakpo Thomas as winner of Delta South senatorial election done on Saturday.

He beats Mr. Michael Diden, popularly known as Ejele of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (retd) to emerge as Senator-elect for Delta South Senatorial District of Delta State.

It was learned that Joel-Onowakpo was officially declared as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Delta South Collation Centre in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area.

While declaring the results, the Returning Officer for Delta South Senatorial election, Prof Peretimina Anthony, said that the APC candidate polled a total 49, 955 votes while his closest rival, Hon. Michael Diden of the People’s Democratic Party got 47,656 votes.

However, Prof Peretimina, declared Joe-Onowakpo Thomas as duly elected Senator-elect at the collation centre in Otobo Hall in Oleh.
