Military Warns Against Hijacking of Planned Protest, Vows to Prevent Anarchy

By Stephen Asaba-ase
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a warning to individuals planning to hijack the August 1st nationwide protest to cause chaos, stating that the military will not allow the country to descend into anarchy.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, emphasized that the planned protest bears similarities to violent events in Kenya and that unscrupulous elements plan to hijack the process.
The military spokesman noted that while citizens have the right to peaceful protest, they do not have the right to mobilize for anarchy and unleash terror. He cited potential targets, including individuals with basic possessions, places of worship, businesses, and markets.
Buba urged citizens to recognize the unique circumstances surrounding this protest and called for calm to allow the Federal Government to address the situation and restore national prosperity. He emphasized that the military will take necessary actions to prevent violent actions and protect Nigerians and their properties.
