Niger Junta Withdraws French Ambassador’s Immunity, Orders Arrest

Following the ongoing coup in Niger Republic, the new military rulers have withdrawn the French ambassador’s diplomatic immunity and ordered police to expel him.

This is according to a letter obtained on Thursday, August 31, 2023, by Congress News correspondent.

The envoy “no longer enjoys the privileges and immunities attached to his status as member of the diplomatic personnel in the French embassy,” the letter to the foreign ministry in Paris read in part.

It was added that”The police have been instructed to proceed to his expulsion.”
