NPF Affirms Commitment to Rule of Law in Handling Criminal Cases

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to due process, institutional discipline and the rule of law, saying allegations against any officer will be investigated through established legal and administrative channels.

A statement by the Force says the criminal case involving social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, is already before a court of competent jurisdiction following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. It insists the matter is now subjudice and will not be decided through media campaigns or public commentary.

Meanwhile, the Force confirms that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department has invited the AIG in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Moshood Jimoh, for questioning over the allegations. It also disclosed that VeryDarkMan was formally invited by the Force CID in Abuja on July 30, 2026, to substantiate the claims he made publicly.

The Police maintain that no officer is above the law and no genuine complaint will be ignored, stressing that any officer found culpable will face disciplinary action in line with the Constitution, the Police Act 2020 and Force regulations. The Force urged all parties to respect the judicial process and resolve grievances through lawful complaint mechanisms rather than trial by media.
