The governor of Delta state Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has been urged to release fund to expedite the compensation of #EndSARS victims in the state as recommended by the judicial panel.

This was made available to Congress correspondent in a press statement signed by Comrade Isreal Joe, a member of the state judicial enquiry panel which was constituted by the governor to relieve #EndSARS victims’ families of losses in the penultimate months.

The statement reads: ”
I write to draw the attention of His Excellency Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa that the compensations to the #EndSARS victims as recommended by the judicial Panel of Inquiry into Police Brutality and Extra Judicial killings have not been paid. This has continued to give me sleepless night since I am the one nominated to represent the Civil Society Organizations in the Human Rights Protection Committee.

“We recalled the words of His Excellency during the inauguration of the Committee on 20th of October, 2021, where he promised to start up the payment for compensating the victims of Police Brutality as recommended by the Judicial Panel of Inquiry. However, this promise is yet to be fulfilled at this material time.

“I wish to state unambiguously and unequivocally that if compensation does not kick start before the end of April, I will have no other option than to resign my membership from the Delta State Human Rights Protection Committee as we shall continue to speak for the masses and their consistent plights”.
