Two suspected cultists have been reportedly gunned down in an alleged reprisal attack in Ilesa town.

According to information available, the duo were gunned down by suspected members of a rival cult group at Sabo, Irojo Junction, Ilesa at about 2pm on Tuesday.

The shooting was linked to the killing of two suspected cultists at a beer parlour on Sunday.

A journalist, Sodiq Lawal said the deceased were suspected to be cult members.

“Their bodies were picked up along the Ilesa/Akure expressway by the police this afternoon. We all ran for cover when we heard noise from the scene.

“The killing is a continuation of inter-cult rivalry going on Ilesa area in the last three days. Policemen took the bodies of the deceased away in their vehicle.”

Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident, said more men had been deployed to Ilesa to halt the current spate of killings in the town.

“More men have been deployed to the community but you know police operatives can’t be everywhere.

“Two men were killed today again but we are not relenting.

“Perpetrators of the crime won’t escape justice,” Opalola said.

It was earlier reported that two suspected cultists were gunned down by a gang on Sunday.
