Osun Guber: INEC Declares Accord Candidate Winner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the incumbent Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, winner of the state’s governorship election, securing his re-election for a second term.

The declaration was made in the early hours of Sunday by the Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, after the collation of results from all 30 local government areas in the state.

Official results released by the electoral commission showed Adeleke securing 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who recorded 444,815 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is hereby declared winner and is returned elected,” Professor Ogunwole announced before signing the final declaration in the presence of party agents and election observers.

Adeleke’s victory was anchored by his performance in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in the remaining 11.

The incumbent governor recorded notable victories in Ede North and Osogbo, where he polled 35,427 and 36,480 votes respectively. His performance in Osogbo was particularly strong, contributing significantly to his overall lead.

Oyebamiji, however, secured a decisive win in Irewole Local Government Area with 29,972 votes. He also emerged victorious in Atakumosa West, Boripe, Ilesa East and Olorunda, among other local government areas.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished a distant third in the overall contest. Its highest result was recorded in Ejigbo Local Government Area, where the party secured 5,053 votes.

The governorship election, held on Saturday, attracted considerable attention as Adeleke sought to retain his position after his first term in office.

His re-election marks a fresh endorsement from voters for his administration and its record over the past four years.

Celebrations reportedly began in parts of Osogbo, the state capital, shortly after the results were announced, with supporters of the Accord Party taking to the streets to celebrate the victory.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC campaign organisation had not issued an official reaction to the election outcome.
