The Special Assistant to the governor of Delta state on political matters, Comrade Ozobo Austin has revealed that political leaders in Burutu LGA and Ayakoromo in particular were booed and attacked by their supposed followers due to the failure of the current administration in the state to complete Ayakoromo bridge project after eight years of inheriting it from the previous government.

Ozobo asserted in an interview with newsmen on the sad experiences of political leaders and appointees in Burutu Local Government Area in the just concluded presidential and governorship elections on Friday.

The activist said the supposed followers of Burutu LGA political leaders and appointees booed and verbally attack them due to the failure to complete the Ayakoromo bridge project by the current administration of the state.

He lamented that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP nearly lost Burutu to the opposition party in the state following the outright protest against political leaders and appointees by their people.

“I overheard my people saying, ‘PDP has failed us, we are tired of PDP, we want to vote APC this time. Your leaders have failed us, you can’t persuade Okowa to complete the Ayakoromo bridge. You can’t advise Okowa to bring one of the three newly established universities to the riverine communities. You have failed us.’

“We were speechless, as they were not even ready to listen to pleas by leaders. It was like a coup against PDP leaders. The opposition went to the riverine communities and brainwashed our people with rappers and money. We were politically trapped and fooled. It was with the help of God that we won Burutu for PDP in the just concluded general elections.

“It is my advice that if we must move forward, we should quickly make amend by promptly approving funds for the Ayakoromo bridge project and prioritising other critical developmental issues in the state.”
