High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo has received applause following the Conferment of the Honourary Doctorate Degree on him by Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State.

This is according to a statement by a leading chairmanship aspirant of Burutu Local Government Council, Comrade Ozobo Austin on Monday.

Ozobo said the award of Honourary Doctorate Degree on Tompolo is well deserved, adding that it was overdue following his immense contributions to the survival of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko.

He emphasised that NMU is a brain-child of Tompolo, adding that he influenced the varsity following his determination for quality education for impoverished Niger Delta aborigines.

Ozobo stressed that Tompolo had been adjudged to be one of the most passionate and dedicated leaders in the pursuit of the development and liberation of the Niger Delta region.

The statement reads, “Tompolo paid personal sacrifices for all, he took punches for all, he took insults on behalf of all, he received name-calling for advocating for the emancipation of Niger Delta. He was declared wanted for the sake of the Niger Delta he is speaking for. Time wasted, energy wasted and resources wasted but he counted all for joy.

“We owe Tompolo a huge appreciation, he stood in the gap when we needed a voice. He has done for us what we actually can’t do for ourselves. So we should always be grateful to him,” he noted.

According to the activist cum political philosopher, Tompolo’s leadership style should be emulated by all well-meaning stakeholders, leaders and youths in Niger Delta.

He, however, prayed to God to strengthen and protect him and give him more wisdom, knowledge and understanding to continue to pilot the affairs of the Niger Delta region.

“Once again, I say a big congratulations to him for this uncommon feat of achievement,” he added.
