Niger Delta activist and Ijaw leader, Amb. Ozobo Austin, has said former President Goodluck Jonathan would emerge victorious if he decides to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Ozobo made the statement in Warri, Delta State, while speaking on the political outlook of the Niger Delta ahead of the next general elections.

He argued that Jonathan remains one of the few national figures with broad acceptance across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, adding that his track record in office and commitment to peace would work in his favour.

“President Jonathan has the experience, national goodwill, and credibility to unify the country if given another opportunity. If he is contesting, I am optimistic he will win,” Ozobo said.

The activist also called on political stakeholders in the Niger Delta and across the South-South to close ranks and speak with one voice in supporting credible leadership. He said the region needed a leader who understands its developmental challenges and would address issues of resource control, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.

Ozobo urged Nigerians to prioritize competence and national cohesion over party and ethnic considerations in the 2027 polls.

Former President Jonathan has not publicly declared any intention to run in 2027.
