Panic as gunmen allegedly kill soldier, policeman in Delta

Pandemonium in the Kwale community in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State as suspected gunmen allegedly killed a military Major and a policeman on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe has debunked the report alleging that a policeman was killed in the community fracas which killed a chief, and three others and injured about two persons in the community.

The incident reportedly occurred at 3: am when the gunmen killed a military major and policeman after killing a community chief in the area.

The Community Youth President Mr. Victor Enebeli who briefed newsmen in Ase-Umoku on Friday condemned the ugly incident which took place on Wednesday.

The statement alleged that three other persons were shot by the fleeing gunmen.

According to Enebeli, “The gunmen who shot a policeman dead at Ashaka also shot two soldiers, one Major and a rank and file in kwale. The Major has been confirmed dead. Unfortunately, the gunmen’s vehicle developed a fault at Ashaka and they abandoned their vehicle and escaped.

“Three injured persons whom the gunmen thought are dead are in the hospital. The gunmen went to the hospital, Breman hospital by the Kwale roundabout to kill the injured people who are receiving treatment, to ensure there is no evidence of the dastardly act, but unknown to them there was an army checkpoint close to the hospital, in a bid to escape being clamped down by the soldiers, the gunmen shot at the military in the first attack, and a Major and another soldier were hit by the bullet”

The source said relevant authorities including the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army were already informed and are aware of the incident.

The Delta State Police Command spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the killing in the community but declined comment on the killing of a military major in the incident.
