Panic as Lagos National Stadium Floodlight Collapses

A giant floodlight located at the K entrance of Lagos National Stadium has collapsed.

The floodlight that collapsed after a downpour is located close to Sport Association Of Nigeria ( SWAN ) secretariat.

Though, there was no casualties but the incident caused panic among stadium users and athletes.

Mr Sunday Dare, the Nigeria sports minister confirmed the incident, speaking through the sport director, press and Public Relation, Manga Mohammed.

“The ongoing repairs at the 51 year old stadium do not cover floodlights and 16 other part of the stadium that need urgent renovation after 19 years of neglect”.

One of the stadium official gave thanks to God for the fact that no casualty was recorded.

He said, ” I thank God that no casualty was recorded in the incident”.

Adejuwon, one of the athletes also expressed his concern over government slow approach towards the renovation of the best sporting facilities in Sub Sahara Africa, the athlete refered such action as a shameful act from the government.

“It is a shame that the Federal Government allowed the National Stadium to rot away after hundreds of millions of naira spent on it,” Adejumo said.
