Participating research institutes at the 2026 Seed Connect and Exhibition, organized by the Lake Chad Research Institute, showcased improved varieties of their mandate crops, including wheat, millet, barley, maize, sorghum, among others.

The institutes also displayed locally fabricated mechanized farm implements designed to ease farming operations.

The displays highlighted innovations developed to help farmers adapt to changing climatic conditions while increasing yields and incomes.

The Executive Director of the Lake Chad Research Institute, while speaking on the importance of quality seeds, noted that seeds contribute significantly to crop yields.

He emphasized that the institute continues to support food security efforts by developing improved seed varieties and ensuring that farmers have access to quality seeds and extension services at the right time.

He further explained that the Seed Connect initiative serves as a platform linking farmers directly with improved seeds suitable for their soil type and farming season.
