Past governors were unfair to us – Abia community

By Sola Omoniyi, Lagos

The people of the Umuokomiri Obehie community in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State have expressed their gratitude to the administration of Governor Alex Otti for constructing a road in the community.

Speaking through Ben Nwokagbara and Chimeko Ezekiel, they said the completion of the road project which was abandoned by the previous administrations in the State would save them from abject poverty, create economic opportunities, as well as bring true development to their villages.

The Umuokomiri people lambasted the previous administrations in the State for abandoning them to wallow in abject poverty, even as an oil-producing area.

They further regretted that previous administrations in Abia were wicked and insensitive to the dangerous environmental conditions of the oil-producing people, saying that all they got from the former Abia governors were fake promises and wickedness.

They commended the administration of Governor Alex Otti and the General Manager of Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, ASOPADEC, Joshua Onyeike for completing the Umuokomiri road, which had been abandoned for many decades.

The Umuokomiri natives recalled how businesses in the area closed down because of the lack of access roads, adding that car owners could not enter their community.

“We have been in a big mess for a long time now, praying for a way out, before the intervention of the State Government through ASOPADEC.

“The road was waterlogged, deserted, and completely abandoned; our people park their cars at the junction and trek for sometimes over one kilometre to get to their houses, but today the narrative has changed.

“It was like a dream to us, everybody is happily enjoying the road and we are eternally grateful to God for giving us Governor Otti.

“The former era made fake promises to us and was unresponsive to our plight but our story has changed today and the impression we had about ASOPADEC has also changed for good because of the pragmatic leadership of the present administration; This is a prayer answered for Umuokomiri community,” Chimeko Ezekiel said.
