Police Arrest Four Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Firearms in Asaba
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its proactive policing drive with the arrest of four suspected armed robbers and the recovery of firearms during coordinated patrol and stop-and-search operations within Asaba.
The arrests, which took place on April 23, were carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Crack Squad as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and dismantle criminal networks in the state.
In the first incident, police operatives on routine stop-and-search duty along Ugbolu/Asaba Road intercepted a 28-year-old suspect, identified as Chinoso Igwemma. According to police sources, the suspect’s suspicious behaviour prompted a search, which led to the discovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol in his possession. Authorities believe the swift action of the officers may have prevented a potential violent crime. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
In a related operation, operatives of the Crack Squad on patrol in the Bonsaac area of Asaba intercepted a tricycle carrying three male occupants. The suspects—identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem (30), Nwabueze Kelvin (28), and Okonkwo Celestine (30)—were subjected to a thorough search, which resulted in the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size firearm loaded with a live cartridge.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to robbery activities and have allegedly been involved in dispossessing residents of their belongings. Police authorities disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the criminal network.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations and proactive policing strategies aimed at ensuring public safety across Delta State.
The Command assured residents that all suspects will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, while urging members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible information.
