Police arrest suspected armed robber, recover guns in Delta

The Delta State Police Command, Asaba has arrested a suspected armed robber, simply identified as Joseph Vincent during a stop and search operation.

The suspect was arrested at about 10:am, Sunday 9th April along Jeremi /Iwhrekan road in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state.

According to a release signed by DSP Bright Edafe, the Police State Public Relation Officer, the suspect was apprehended during a stop and search duty.

“Operatives of Dragon 18 and 29, while on stop and search duty along Jeremi/Iwhrekan road in Ughelli South LGA, intercepted a tricycle with Reg. No. GBB 022 UN driven by one Isreal Sibito ‘m’ 58yrs conveying three females and one male passenger,” the statement reads.

“While the search was being carried out, the male passenger who was later identified as Joseph Vincent ‘m’, age 24yrs jumped down from the tricycle and ran into a nearby bush in an attempt to escape, he was given a hot chase by the operatives and arrested.

“When the search was conducted on him, two (2) locally fabricated Berretta pistols were recovered from him. The investigation is ongoing,” he added.

The command, however, emphasized commitment to its core mandate which is the protection of lives and property and urged members of the public to exercise patience when they are subjected to stop and search by police operatives.
