The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to protect critical national infrastructure with the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals and the recovery of vandalised electric cables in the state.
The suspects, identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, were apprehended on Wednesday, June 25, 2026, following a joint operation by operatives of the Kwale Police Station and members of a local vigilante group.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was launched following credible intelligence that some individuals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road in Delta State.
Acting swiftly on the information, security operatives mobilised to the scene where the suspects allegedly attempted to flee upon sighting the police team.
During the operation, one of the suspects sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the other remains in police custody.
The police also recovered the vandalised electric cables, which have been taken into custody as exhibits.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned criminal elements against vandalising government infrastructure and other public assets, stressing that the Command would remain relentless in identifying, arresting, and prosecuting offenders.
The Commissioner also called on members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention and facilitate the arrest of criminals.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring the security of lives and property across the state.
