The Delta Police Command has foiled an armed robbery attempt and recovered a fabricated aka 47 rifle, twelve rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and three live cartridges during the weekend.

The state police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe disclosed this to newsmen in a statement on Tuesday.

According to him, the command swung into action following a distressed call in Hausa Market in Asaba over suspicious movements, and the items were recovered.

Edafe stated: “On the 11/09/2022 at about 0430hrs, the Command in a swift response to a distress call from Hausa Market in Asaba, about some suspicious looking persons using a tricycle in the area, operatives of Command’s CP-Decoy Squad were detailed to the area where the hoodlums on sighting the Police abandoned a de-faced tricycle and took to their heels.

“Upon a thorough search of the tricycle, a fabricated AK 47 rifle, twelve (12) rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and twenty-three (23) live cartridges all concealed in a black polythene bag and hidden beneath the rear passenger’s seat were recovered. The effort is been intensified in collaboration with local vigilantes to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

However, the Commissioner of Police CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, PSC+, appreciated the efforts of the residents in the State who always avail the Command with useful information that aids in crime fighting.

He urged them to continue to collaborate with the Command, noting that crime has no jurisdiction, as criminals do not have human sympathy and as such should not be allowed to go about their mischievous deeds unhindered.

CP also assured Deltans that the identity of anyone who gives information to the Police would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
