The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero on administrative bail.

Ajaero was arrested on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while on his way to the UK for an official engagement.

His arrest sparked widespread condemnation from various organizations, civil society groups, activists, and prominent individuals, who demanded his immediate release.

The NLC described his detention as “brazen and illegal” and a clear violation of workers’ rights and democratic values. Pro-democracy activist Omoyele Sowore announced Ajaero’s release on social media, criticizing the government’s actions as fascist.
