Protest Rocks Burutu Over Collapsed Hospital, Lacks of Doctors, Poor Roads, Accusing LG Chairman Of Poor Performance

Pandemonium broke out in Burutu, headquarters of the Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday as hundreds of youths and women took to the streets to protest the deplorable state of the government hospital and other decaying infrastructures in the community.

The demonstrators marched to the LGA secretariat, accusing the Council Chairman, Mr. Julius Takeme, of poor performance and neglect of basic amenities.

The protesters said the government hospital in Burutu has collapsed and can no longer serve the people. They demanded immediate deployment of qualified doctors, nurses, and midwives to the facility to address the health crisis in the area.

“We are tired of dying in a hospital without drugs and without doctors. The hospital building is also collapsing, the council chairman feels unconcerned. There is much money in the council, yet he chose to pocket it. We need good healthcare services now,” one of the protesters said.

Besides healthcare, the demonstrators also called for the construction of good roads and drainage systems in the LGA. They further demanded stable power supply, transparency, and accountability in the management of council funds.

The youths expressed disappointment over the chairman’s performance, vowing to sustain the protest until the council meets their demands.

“We will continue this protest until the LGA does the needful for our people,” a protest leader declared. “Burutu deserves better. We pay taxes and we deserve basic services.”

The protesters however urged the Delta State Government to intervene and save the people of Burutu from further suffering.

However, at the time of filing this report, there was no official reaction from the Chairman’s office.
