President Bola Tinubu and governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja. The meeting, which started around 1 pm, is aimed at addressing the growing calls for a nationwide protest against the country’s economic hardship.

The Progressive Governors Forum, led by Chairman Hope Uzodimma, and the Nigeria Governors Forum, led by Chairman Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman, are attending the meeting. Key officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and Ministers of Finance and Budget & Economic Planning, Wale Edun and Abubakar Bagudu, are also present.

The meeting comes after the APC governors pleaded with Nigerians to cancel the planned protest, citing concerns that it could be hijacked by politicians to cause chaos. The National Economic Council meeting scheduled for Thursday was also cancelled due to the escalating tension.

The protest, slated for August 1, has gained momentum on social media, with many Nigerians expressing frustration over the country’s economic situation. The government is working to prevent the protest, which it fears could lead to anarchy.
