By Peters Monday, Abuja

Renowned Niger Delta Environmentalist and rights activist has congratulated Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi, member representing Burutu Federal Constituency, on his emergence as Chairman House Committee on Environment.

This is according to a statement signed by himself on Friday.

Ozobo said Pondi’s emergence as Chairman House Committee on Environment is well deserved, having come from Niger Delta’s most polluted environment and being an advocate of a cleaner environment in the country over the years.

“Though I don’t know the terms of reference, the job is challenging because, in Niger Delta, we have flooding problems, to that of crude oil pollution and erosional challenges, and similar challenges faced by citizens in the other part of the country. He needs stakeholders’ cooperation and concerted effort to address some of these environmental challenges,” he added.

The advocate appealed that the country’s president and members of the National Assembly should give him the needed support to administer his duties in line with laid down environmental laws in the country.

He also assured the lawmaker of the support of the civil society organizations in the country to enable him to achieve his set goals as he assumed office as House committee chairman on the environment.
