A Security Expert in Delta state, Mr. Demebide Master Tony has said that the recent and ongoing destruction of properties and bank facilities by angry citizens are not just a resultant effect of frustration to access cash as it will be assumed by many.

He averred the suspected persons now disguised as protesters to rob, commit arson, vandalize public facilities to cart away properties.

The statement reads partly,”It is a covertly organized crime where youths in the community where banks are situated and their counterparts may be the likely assailants.

The security expert advised Banks and other public institutions to beef up security architecture around its facilities to avoid unnecessary attacks.

In his words, “This is a call to Banks to beef up their security architecture. Zenith Bank has recently done well by temporarily shutting down on the basis of poor network; I truly commend their deterrence strategy. Another Strategy that can be done by other banks is Territoriality. By territoriality, a temporary perimeter can be created to send a signal of ownership such as a shortly fenced demarcation indicating restriction except with need to go in and also an armed personnel can be stationed just as we have our checkpoints.

“Access Control is also another key strategy to compliment the territorial boundary created. This access can be controlled by demanding for ATM Cards of those that wants to access the territory as well as a valid form of identification to corroborate the name on the card.

“It may be excruciating but temporarily needed to deter conflict. Noteworthy, a Static Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera can be stationed close to the Access point to document entry because its footage will help profile assailants in the case of an attack. The idea is that only those that has been granted access can cause conflict within the territory. The use of vehicles by Bank Staff can be avoided too to minimize their susceptibility to Vandalism.

“This write up is also a call to businesses as well as entrepreneurs operating around financial institutions for them to be very careful as they are vulnerable to these attacks too. To deter as well as minimize the chances of being victims, it is humbly advised you Harden your Targets and Control your Access this time around. By Target hardening, I mean change your locks if they can be easily broken. Also, you are humbly advised to temporarily minimize the quality of goods in your shop so as to avoid huge loss in the case of a random attack/looting.

“POS operators may also be likely targets hence they should do well to be rational in their routine. Avoid late night transactions, avoid carrying huge amount of money , do well to operate in busy areas and avoid isolated places too.
My humble submission, Thank you”
