Following what could be described as drama the family of a returnee of Dubai, United Arab Emirates has accused policemen and vigilante operatives attached to Rain Oil Filling Station in Effurun of beaten him to death.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command had denied the report, stating that no such incident had been reported in the command.

Congress learnt that the victim who is identified as Tammy Okubo-ama was allegedly beaten to death by police operatives attached to a Rain Oil Filling Station in collaboration with vigilantes in Ugbomrun, Effurun Delta State.

Lamenting over the incident, a younger brother to the deceased, Nathaniel Okubo-ama narrated that Tammy was killed and his body secretly deposited at a morgue.

“We are yet to get to the bottom of the case but he was supposedly killed by vigilantes and policemen who are yet to be identified,” he said.

According to the deceased brother, the family was notified of Tammy’s death by a staff at the morgue where his body was deposited.

“it was a staff at the Warri Central Hospital that called to inform us that his body was brought to the mortuary some mobile policemen,” he narrated.

While reason for the attack on the deceased is yet to be ascertained, the family suggests “it must have been a case of mistaken identity.”

It was gathered the deceased had two wives, four children and aged mother and was the bread winner before his death.

The family had called on the commissioner of police Delta State to carry out a discret investigation to unravel the perpetrators and brought them to justice no matter highly placed they are.

However, the Delta State Police Relations Officer, Bright Edafe when contacted said there was no incident of such reported, adding that the command had not gotten any such report from anyone.

He urged the public to disregard the report, saying that the police are highly disciplined security force and can’t resort to such cruelty.
