Soldiers killed as gunmen attack army checkpoint

About two suspected soldiers have been allegedly killed in an attack on a military checkpoint by suspected gunmen in Enugu State on Tuesday morning.

It was gathered that the gunmen attacked the military checkpoint at Obeagu-Amodu road in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Congress learned that military men had been severally attacked by suspected gunmen along that axis.

Sources said the frequent attacks led to the deployment of the combined team of security operatives in the area. The sources said the gunmen stormed the area in two Lexus Jeeps and one Toyota Sienna bus around 7:25 a.m.

According to the report, the assailants reportedly opened fire at the combined team of the Police and the military.

However, the casualty figure is yet to be ascertained at press time, but the source alleged that at least two soldiers died.

The police in Enugu State are yet to issue an official statement on the reported attack.
