Suspected pirates attack Navy personnel in Warri River

Some Navy personnel have been declared missing after a midnight attack by suspected gunmen in Warri, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

A speed boat driver said the Navy personnel were on night patrol along Warri waterways when they were attacked on Thursday night.

The source alleged that about six of them on board were shot and the driver had been kidnapped.

Another source, said the Navy personnel were on illegal patrol when they were attacked. “They were going after illegal oil bunkery operators collecting money when they were attacked.”

It was learnt that the six officials and their rifles were still missing at press time.

Although no official statement has been issued by the Navy authorities.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Command’s PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe, said he is to be briefed on the incident.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach out to the Navy spokesman failed as calls made did not go through.
