Tears as bandits kill driver, set vehicle ablaze in Enugu

Tension is heightened in Enugu as bandits kill a sienna driver and burnt his vehicle in the state capital territory.

According to people who are familiar with the incident, the bandits had been impeding their occupation every morning. They also asserted that most times the bandits chased away passengers travelling to diverse areas of the country, especially in the morning.

It was learnt that the incident led to the killing of the driver and his vehicle being set ablaze, an incident that occurred early Monday morning at the Holy Ghost area of the state capital.

The source said the incident also restrained travellers from embarking on their journey to different parts of the country while transport companies were compelled to close for the day.

The motive behind the attack was not clear, but it was insinuated as a result of the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) to agitate against their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu being jailed.

One of the locals told reporters that the incident occurred very early on Monday morning around 6. According to him “As I speak to you, Holy Ghost, Main Market and Old Park areas are ghost places now. The attackers burnt a sienna bus and I learnt they killed the driver. The Enugu North Local Government chairman alerted us this morning about the development and has directed that all of us – local security outfit which includes – neighbourhood watch and forest guard personnel to come out,”
