Tension in Bayelsa Community as fire guts oil Well

An oil spill has occurred in the Santa Barbara South field of Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State after fire gutted the facility managed by the Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company–operator of the NNPC/Aiteo Joint Venture on OML 29.

The fire, which major cause is still unknown, was said to have gutted Well One (1) in the Santa Barbara South field on Friday, November 5, 2021.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Comrade Degi Nimbofa Collins, noted the spill has polluted the water ways in Opu Nembe; posing a serious environmental and health challenges to the natives.

Comrade Collins called on relevant authorities to swiftly come to the aid of the Opu Nembe people to stop the spillage and restore normalcy to the area.
