Tragedy as groom, 5 marriage guests die in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has said a groom and five marriage guests died a day after the marriage ceremony, adding that its had commenced an investigation into the death of the six persons.

The incident which occurred during the weekend in Akutara village in Adani community of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area had caused serious pandemonium among residents.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the security agency is looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of the six persons.

He narrated, “the police got a report of the sudden and unnatural death of six persons and the admission of eight others at the hospital at weekend.

Ndukwe maintained that preliminary investigations revealed that one of the deceased, 31-year-old Obinna Dike attended his(deceased groom) traditional marriage ceremony at Obollo-Eke in Udenu LGA on August 26.

“Dike attended with his relatives and other victims, who all went back home and continued with the celebration.

“But the following morning, none of them came out of the room where they slept, so the door was forced open to bring them out.

“All were found unconscious, with foamy discharge from their mouths and were rushed to the hospital.

According to the police, they were confirmed dead and deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Others are responding to treatment.

The CP while commiserating with the families and friends of the deceased, said he had ordered a full-scale probe into matter.

He urged the residents of the community to maintain peaceful and assist the command with information in the case.
