Tragedy As Two-Storey Building Collapses, Residents Trapped
By Stephen Asaba-ase
A two-storey building has collapsed in the Isale Eko area of Lagos State, causing widespread anxiety among residents. The incident is believed to have been caused by structural defects, and unfortunately, many residents are trapped inside the rubble.
Congress news learnt that the building’s integrity was compromised following a recent fire incident at Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island. The fire had a devastating impact, affecting 14 other buildings in the vicinity. In April, four buildings collapsed due to the severity of the fire that engulfed Dosunmu Market.
Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the extent of the damage. He also highlighted the swift response of emergency teams, including NEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigeria Police, and the fire service of the Nigeria Ports Authority, who worked together to extinguish the fire.
“Rescue efforts are currently underway to save those trapped inside the collapsed building. Our thoughts are with the affected residents and their families during this difficult time”, Farinloye added
