The Imo State Police Command has reacted to a trending video depicting the assault of a young woman and her brother at Okigwe, who were reportedly en route to Abia State University.
It was reported in some quarters that the victims were assaulted by armed police men. The video showed the armed men and the siblings exchanging words and also struggling. The young lady in the video alleged that one of the armed men inflicted an injury on her lips.
However, in a statement, the command’s image maker, SP Henry Okoye, clarified that the armed men seen in the video are not police officers but personnel of the Imo State Vigilante Organization.
Okoye said the individuals, identified as Ejiogu Nchekwube and Caleb Onyebuchi, have been arrested and are currently detained at the Okigwe Divisional Police Headquarters, while investigation into the incident continues.
He said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, is committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rights of members of the public. He assured that anyone found culpable will face appropriate action in accordance with the law.
