Warri, the oil city was agog as the popular Gbaramatuvoice newspaper organised a maiden Ijaw cultural fiesta on 30th January 2024.

The event was the first of its kind as it gathered the Ijaws across the Niger Delta region with distinct cultural displays and entertainment.

The cultural fiesta was a Reanimation and reflection of the dying culture and tradition of the Ijaw people. It brings almost all Ijaw forgotten and dying traditional wrestling, dancing, throwing of fishing nets, boat regatta and telling of the heroic and didactic stories of Ijaw people.

However, Gbaramatuvoice received applauds for putting together this massive event, reaching out to Rivers State, Bayelsa State, Ondo State, Akwa Ibom, Cross River etching on the Ijaw drums for their skilful rendition of Awigiri, Agene and Acro dance and wrestling prowess as Ijaw trademarks.

The event gathered top-notch Ijaw musical stars like Timaya, alias the Egberipapa1 of Bayelsa, Timi Dakolo, King Pereama Freetown, Niger Delta high life king, Chief Barrister Smooth, Jking Izone-ebi and MCs and Comedians of Ijaw by colouration, the likes of Asiayei Enaibo alias the talking drum of Niger, Anthony Demes. alias akpolokpolo1, the creek Mc and many more. As our Fathers will say ‘variety is the spice of life’. The Ijaw corner is very interesting with the spices of things.

The Media is apt for their great role, selling the Ijaw cultural fiesta before and aftermath of this watertight event to the Atlantics, kudos, and the Congress News Nigeria for live streaming and coverage of the Gbaramatuvoice epoch event.

The organisers, supporters and people who lend credence to this spectacular event are heartwarming. This is uniting the people and also a call to redefine the vision of the Ijaw cultural heritage.
