Woman in police net over trafficking underage girls for prostitution in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Police Command has intercepted a middle-aged businesswoman, Madam Florence Emeka at Twon-Brass, in Brass Local Government Area of the State over the alleged trafficking of two under-aged girls to Ghana for prostitution.

The victims are identified as Nengi, ’15’, and Preye, ’14’, who were reported to have been taken to Ghana early this year for prostitution.

It was learnt one of the victims, Nengi escaped from Ghana to Lagos with the help of some concerned Ghanaians who assisted her transport, while Preye is still stranded in Ghana with less hope of returning to Nigeria.

Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the arrest to newsmen. According to him, the suspect will be transferred to Yenagoa for further investigation and prosecution.

Speaking, the former chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Tarinyo Akono called on the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person( NAPTIP) to join forces with the police to rescue the stranded Preye from her traffickers in Ghana.

The union’s chairman advised parents to investigate friends kept by their children and the kind of people they send their children to live with.
