Zamfara Vet Doctors Get Salary Boost Under New CONMESS
By Babangida Abdullahi Gusau
The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Zamfara State Chapter, has commended Governor Dauda Lawal for approving and implementing the new Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for veterinary doctors in the state.
The association described the implementation as a significant milestone for veterinary professionals in Zamfara, saying it demonstrated the state government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, professional recognition and the development of the livestock and animal health sector.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Dr Mukhtar Salihu Anka, PhD, the association said veterinary doctors play a critical role in safeguarding animal health, improving livestock productivity and protecting public health.
It also noted that veterinary professionals contribute to the control of zoonotic diseases, food safety and the broader economic development of the state.
The NVMA said Governor Lawal’s decision had addressed longstanding concerns over appropriate remuneration and professional welfare among veterinary doctors, expressing optimism that the new salary structure would boost staff morale and productivity.
According to the association, improved remuneration would further encourage veterinary doctors to provide quality services to livestock farmers and residents across the state.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Lawal administration in advancing animal health, livestock development, public health and the socio-economic development of Zamfara.
The NVMA thanked the governor for what it described as a “landmark intervention” and prayed for continued success in his administration.
