About ten persons have escaped death in Udu kingdom as a flood-ravaged over 18 communities in the Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The names of the affected communities were given as Emadadja, Ekrota, Ubogo, Ukpiovwin, Ukperheren, Obubu, Oghior, Ogbe-Udu, Okolor Waterside, Okolor Inland, Egini and Erhiephihor.

Others were Ayama, Epame, Aladja, Orhuwhorun, Ugbisi, Otor-Udu, and many others.

Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Jite Brown, who took journalists on-the-spot assessment tours at the affected communities, lamented that about 65 percent of the communities in the locality had been wreaked by the flood.

He groaned that houses, farmlands, and properties worth several millions of naira had been destroyed.

According to him: “We are still intensifying efforts to know the extent of the damage because there are areas we can no longer access until the flood recedes.

“We are trying to see how we can move those displaced by the flood to nearby IDP camps to enable those who are willing to help them to do so,” he added.

He commended the efforts of the state governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, in mitigating the negative effect of the ravaging flood in the state.
