2027: Omo-Agege Seeks Senate Return, Urges Supporters to Back Obi, Iyovwaye and NDC Candidates
By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
EFFURUN, Delta State — Former Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, has appealed to the people of Delta Central Senatorial District to return him to the Senate in 2027, saying he wants to continue what he described as his record of representation and development advocacy.
Omo-Agege made the appeal on Thursday, August 21, during a campaign engagement with supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Wards 1, 2 and 3 in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The former Deputy Senate President urged voters to reject the incumbent senator representing Delta Central and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, arguing that the state and the senatorial district needed what he described as stronger and more effective representation.
He criticised the incumbent Delta Central senator over the development of the Sapele Seaport, arguing that greater advocacy was needed to attract federal attention to the facility.
According to Omo-Agege, while the Federal Government had appropriated significant funds for the revitalisation of the Lagos Port, the Sapele Seaport deserved similar attention and stronger legislative advocacy.
The former senator also criticised the Delta State Government over the use of funds received by the state in recent years, alleging that development had not matched the level of public resources available.
He claimed that some schools in the state still lacked adequate learning facilities, including furniture for pupils, despite the state’s financial inflows.
Omo-Agege said he had previously played a major role in attracting federal institutions and projects to Delta State, including the Federal Polytechnic and the Nigeria Aerospace-related institution in Orogun.
He recalled his involvement in efforts to ensure that a defence and space-related institution was located in Delta State, saying he had consistently fought for the interests of the state during his time in the Senate.
“When the Defence Space School in Nigeria was to be established, one was going to Northern Nigeria and another was going to Western Nigeria, but I put my foot down to fight for it,” he said.
Describing the 2027 election as an opportunity to correct what he called past political mistakes, Omo-Agege urged supporters to vote for candidates of the NDC at all levels.
He specifically canvassed support for the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, whom he said would protect the interests of the Urhobo people and pursue economic growth if elected President.
Omo-Agege also endorsed the NDC governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, as well as the party’s candidates for the House of Representatives, State House of Assembly and other elective positions.
He said Delta State required experienced and capable leadership to address its developmental and economic challenges, urging voters to carefully consider competence and track records in making their choices.
The campaign event was attended by party leaders and supporters, including Dr. Veronica Ogbuagu, former Commissioner for Education; Judith Enamuotor, a former commissioner; and Hon. (Chief) Rotimi O. Ukuade, the NDC House of Assembly candidate in Uvwie.
Omo-Agege concluded by urging his supporters to mobilise across Uvwie and the wider Delta Central Senatorial District, insisting that the 2027 elections would provide an opportunity for what he described as renewed and improved representation for the people.
