According to the Nigeria Police Force, three people who are purportedly part of a ring that engages in extortion, forgery, and counterfeiting of the Nigeria Police Character Certificate have been taken into custody.

As the suspects were being paraded through Ikoyi on Tuesday, ASP Aminat Mayegun, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon Lagos, confirmed the arrest.

According to Mayegun, on November 16, 2023, a unique sting operation was started to dismantle the criminal network.

She said that the special operation was made necessary when an innocent victim reported receiving a fake document at the UK Embassy to expedite her visa application.

She claims that the applicant was denied the visa and prohibited from entering the nation for ten years after it was discovered to be a fake.

The person who created the photograph claimed that three people had been taken into custody: the shop’s owner, Chinedu Agbosim; the main suspect, Mariam Dauda; and Ebighose Anderson, who had been hired by Chinedu as computer operators.

“All the suspects admitted to their individual and common roles in processing the fake Police Character Certificates at a side shop around the Federal Training Center, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“Upon executing a search warrant in the shop, the following items were recovered: Three counterfeit Police Character Certificates, other relevant documents belonging to various Nigerian citizens.

“A computer-generated signature specimen bearing the name of CP CCR, CP Olaolu Adegbite and dated November 16, 2023. A computer-generated document bearing the super-imposed signature of CP Ndu, I.M., the former CCR, CP Ndu I.M, and Desktop computer,” she said.

Mayegun said the suspects would be charged in court soon.
