Anxiety struck Rivers State as four persons were killed after a 40ft container fell on Aleto bridge, around the Eleme axis of the East-West road in Rivers State.

It was gathered the container fell off from the articulated vehicle and knocked two smaller vehicles with their occupants into the River.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon during the heavy rainfall and it had left travelers and eyewitnesses perplexed.

The report said travelers were stranded as it caused heavy gridlock on the road.

It would be recalled that the Eleme axis of the East-West road had remained dilapidated for years despite several protests by youths and other stakeholders in Ogoni land.

It was also learned that early last week a youth group threatened to stage a massive protest on the road at the end of October if the federal government fails to mobilize contractors to the road to commence the repairs.

However, the Rivers State police command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
