Concerned stakeholders, youths and students of Delta School of Marine Technology have protested against the change of name of the school to Delta State Polytechnic by the State governor in the penultimate week.
The protesters have taken to the street in Burutu, the headquarters of Burutu local government area on Wednesday to demand for a reverse of the suspicious and inimical change of the school name to Polytechnic under the guise of upgrade.
It was gathered that Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu was a state-owned Monotechnic established in 2017.
Following the demands for the upgrade of the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu, by students and stakeholders of the Burutu Local Government Area, the governor of the State, His Excellency Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa had upgraded the school to Delta State Polytechnic, Burutu.
The approval was a sequel to an executive bill sent to the state House of Assembly and prompt consideration of the bill by the state House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, the protesters had demands that the school be renamed Delta State Marine Polytechnic and not Delta State Polytechnic, adding that they are not against the upgrade but the name must retained the status of Marine.
