Chess to School” Movie Night To Hold In Ikorodu

Mr Adekunle Emmanuel, the founder of “Chess to School” in partnership with the Critical Thinking Movie Team and Gift of Chess is set to bring a chess movie night show to Ikorodu.

Mr Adekunle described how kids had been learning how to play the game of chess and applying their knowledge of the game to their lifestyles.

He stated that the chess movie is the literature that tells a great story that anyone can have a change in life and become great.

According to the event coordinators, Mr Mishell Isaiah and Mr Collins, they stated that the plan is to display the movie to about 150 children in the community which will bring excitement, entertainment, motivation and inspiration.

It was learnt movie night will feature great chess players via Zoom to share their experiences with the kids.

The event which is scheduled for 26th May, 2023, will hold at the open space of the Ojuemuran Odogunyan community, Ikorodu Lagos.

“Literature is simply the mirror of life, which brings excitement, entertainment, motivation and inspiration to its people.

Mr Adekunle wrote, “The stories we tell and the movies we watch have a way of impacting knowledge and giving us a good feel and that is why the children of Odogunyan community Ikorodu will be coming together to see a chess movie titled “Critical Thinking.

“The kids have been learning how to play the game of chess and applying their knowledge of the game to their individual lives, this great chess movie is the literature that tells us a great story that anyone can have a change of life and become great.

“The movie night show is hosted by Chess to School initiative in partnership with The Critical Thinking Movie team and The Gift of Chess. The plan is to display this great movie to at least 150 children in our community for excitement, motivation and encouragement.

“We will be having a lot of great guests joining us via Zoom to greet the kids and enjoy the show with them, sharing the great experience with the kids.

1. Carla Berkowitz
Carla Berkowitz is the Executive Producer of the independent feature film Critical Thinking, directed by and starring the Emmy-award-winning actor John Leguizamo. She spent over 20 years developing the project from story to screenplay to film.

She’s also an Audio Engineer who wrote, Engineered and Produced soundtracks for all 15 videos.

2. Tunde Onakoya
Tunde Onakoya is a Nigerian chess master, coach and founder of Chess in Slums Africa. He has organized several interventions for children across slums in Lagos state including Majidun (Ikorodu), Makoko and recently, Oshodi. He is known for his good heart and dedication to changing the lives of kids in slums.

3. Corwin C. Tuggles
Corwin C. Tuggles is an American actor. He starred in the movie Critical Thinking. He was the singing voice of Tyrone on The Backyardigans during its first season. On Broadway, he was in Caroline or Change, and Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! He has also done commercials for FluMist, Mercedes Benz, Pee Wee Football, Target, Progressive Corporation, NBA, Comcast, Totinos Pizza Rolls, and more.

4. Soluade Olasunkanmi
Soluade Olasunkanmi is a Nigerian Chess coach and player and founder of Rural Chess Club. He is a man who loves to impact kids with enthusiasm and love for the game of chess. He is a great listener and a good communicator.

5. Russell Makofsky
Russell Makofsky is a board member of The Gift Of Chess, he is known for his contributions to the distribution of the game of chess across the world, using the game of chess as a low-cost catalyst for change and education. He is a great chess player and coach.
